The Bachelor of Science in Business/Administration program is designed for the working adult employed in a business or public organization. The Major is designed to enable graduates to deal effectively with an increasingly complex business environment. The Major stresses skill development in the areas of financial accounting, managerial finance, quantitative analysis, economics, marketing, and business-based research.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Management

The Bachelor of Science in Business/Management is designed for the working adult who wants to acquire or build knowledge and skills essential for management in private and public organizations. The curriculum emphasizes performance systems, employment law, marketing and public relations, financial analysis, global business strategies, and quality management.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Marketing

Bachelor of Science in Education / Elementary Teacher Education

The Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Teacher Education (BSEd/E) is an undergraduate degree program preparing candidates for teacher licensure. The guiding philosophy of the BSEd/E program is to provide students with the skills and knowledge that will allow them tobecome competent and effective educators. This program focuses on elementary student learning by developing the skills of the educatorresponsible for that learning.Student teaching is an integral component of the Teacher Education Program. It provides students with a field-based experience at the appropriate grade and content level. Student teachers work with a cooperating teacher from a school site and with a University of Phoenix faculty advisor. The student teaching experience is designed toemphasize the achievement of state standards leading to certification and to present individuals with growth opportunities that best preparethem to assume the duties of a certified classroom teacher.Throughout the program, students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of verified field experiences, covering a variety ofdevelopmental levels. The focus of each observation will relate to specific course content. Documentation will be maintained in the student's professional portfolio. In addition to the required course of study, students must satisfy general education and elective requirementsto meet the 120-credit minimum required for completion of the degree.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program is focused on the acquisition of theory and technical competencies associated with the information technology profession. The courses provide fundamental knowledge and application in both the information systems function and in system development.

RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,* is designed to develop the professional knowledge and skills of working registered nurses. The curriculum is built upon a foundation of biological, physical, and social sciences which contribute to the science of nursing. The liberal arts components enhance the development of the intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of the professional nurse.

Master of Arts in Education with a Specialization in Administration and Supervision

The Master of Arts in Education degree program with a specialization in Administration and Supervision is designed for educators interested in gaining knowledge and expertise in the area of school administration. The program curriculum is focused on education finance, school law, the roles and responsibilities of the principal, community relations, and supervision of personnel. The degree program also includes an internship experience in school administration at the principal level and a research component and requires an Action Research Project. Each student/applicant is responsible for checking with his/her state Department of Education and/or school district to determine specific credentialing requirements. The Curriculum and Instruction Program is a graduate degree for bachelor prepared individuals who wish to develop and enhance their curriculum and instruction repertoire for the purposes of increasing student learning. The program encompasses the study of curricular planning and development with an integration of technology, assessment and evaluation practices, strategies for effective classroom instruction for a variety of learners and critical issues within the field of education. Master of Arts in Education/Special Education

The Master of Arts in Education (MAED) with a specialization in Cross-Categorical Special Education is a graduate degree program preparing candidates for teacher licensure in the field of special education. Candidates for this program have already earned a bachelor's degree and wish to gain the pedagogical skills and knowledge that will assist them in becoming effective special education educators. The program's curriculum includes orientation to the exceptional child, foundations and methodologies of mild disabilities, diagnosis and assessment of disabilities, structured English immersion, reading and language arts instruction, inclusion strategies, and collaboration and resource management for the special educator.

Throughout the program, students are required to complete verified field experiences with the focus of each observation relating to specific course content. Documentation will be maintained in the student's electronic portfolio.

Student teaching is an integral component of the Special Education Program. Student teachers work with a cooperating teacher and with a University of Phoenix faculty advisor during a field-based experience in a cross-categorical special education setting. The student teaching experience is designed to emphasize the achievement of state standards leading to certification and to present individuals with growth opportunities that best prepare them to assume the duties of a certified teacher.

The degree program has a research component as well. This component requires an Action Research Project. Master of Business Administration

The Master of Business Administration program is designed to enhance the management skills students need to function effectively within an organization. Students will create and defend their solutions to problems of crisis management, profitable growth opportunities, and change leadership. Throughout the program, students gain experience in distilling a situation into a well-defined problem; applying tools and concepts to analyze a variety of alternative solutions; and selecting and defending their recommended course of action.The Master of Business Administration program at University of Phoenix utilizes problem-based learning where students refine their problem solving skills along with their communication, creativity, information utilization, and critical thinking skills. They are assessed on the basis of their use of the problem solving process (which employs a general rubric) as well as their communication and critical thinking skills during their presentation.Learning teams will apply the principles of benchmarking throughout the program to research the most creative solutions to a problem. This will enrich the alternatives that learners consider in evaluating possible solutions to the problems.The MBA consists of 39 credit hours and includes three proficiency courses (MBA 501, MBA 502, MBA 503) which may be satisfied using an undergraduate business degree, undergraduate coursework or graduate coursework. Students may also waive an additional nine credits using graduate courses and may qualify for a 21-credit hour residency.

Master of Business Administration-Global Management

The Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Global Management (MBA/GM) program has been developed to provide those individuals the opportunity to study in a program specifically designed for their needs as current or future managers.

Master of Business Administration-Technology Management

The Master of Business Administration/Technology Management program is designed to enhance the management skills students need to function effectively within a technology organization. Students will create and defend their solutions to technology- based problems of crisis management, profitable growth opportunities, and change leadership. Master of Information Systems

The Masters of Information Systems (MIS) program is focused on the acquisition of information technology theory and the application of theory and practice to real world business opportunities and challenges. The courses provide current theory and knowledge of essential information technology. Master of Management

The Master of Management program (MM) is designed to enhance the management skills needed to function effectively within an organization. Students focus on leadership and management-the human side of an organization. This program emphasizes emerging management theory, techniques, and practices, and incorporates feedback and key competencies from senior business executives, curriculum-design experts, and university academic professionals. The MM program develops management skills in defining business problems, assessing information, considering alternatives, and choosing the best solutions. Graduates attain the skill sets necessary to evaluate and manage the challenges facing contemporary organizations. The MM program consists of 39 credit hours. Thirty credit hours constitute the core curriculum and nine additional credit hours complete the MM program. The final trio of courses allows the student to customize the degree program in a given specialization by focusing on current developments and business problems and issues relative to the specialization. The core begins with a three-credit, six-workshop program prerequisite-Managerial Communication and Ethics-designed to build strategies for success in the program. The remainder of the core courses provides a foundation of analytic and conceptual skills for effective managerial decision making in the real-world organization. Those students in the MM without specialization will complete three additional prescribed courses to hone their problem-solving skills. The final three courses prepare students for executive leadership and decision-making roles in general management. The principle outcome will be the completion of a project introduced in the first of the three specialization courses. The project is completed and presented in the final course of the program. The University of Phoenix has created interactive, multimedia, case-based simulations for its graduate business courses. These simulations place students into real-world environments and require them to apply critical thinking skills to decision-making situations. This discovery process allows students to apply critical thinking skills to decision-making situations. Each simulation offers learners the opportunity to identify the information required to solve the problem, assess alternative solutions, and receive feedback on their choices.

Master of Science in Psychology

The Master of Psychology program focuses on the general rather than clinical psychological study of individuals, including their behaviors, thought processes, and emotions. The program will provide supervisors and managers in business, marketing, human resources, government services or education with an understanding of the cognitive and affective processes that underlie the individual human experience and behavior; research methodologies by which this knowledge is acquired; critical thinking and problem solving necessary to evaluate behavior; and the application of theoretical principles to inter- and intra-personal issues.

Bachelor of Science in Business/e-Business

The Bachelor of Science in e-Business (BSB/EB) Program blends business and information technology to address the emerging field of e-Commerce and e-Business. The program courses provide fundamental knowledge and application in both business and information technology.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Finance

The Bachelor of Science in Business/Finance (BSB/F) program is designed for the working professional employed by a business or public organization. The program of study is designed to enable graduates to deal effectively with an increasingly complex business environment, emphasizing the professional and personal skills needed for effectively meeting organization needs. These skills include effective decision making, values, clarification, needs assessment, group facilitation, presentation, writing and leadership. The Finance major emphasizes fundamental accounting and finance concepts, theories, and practice to promote well-informed financial decision-making. Additional components of the major concentrate on managerial finance, investment fundamentals, portfolio management, and global finance. Students will integrate advanced topics in financial management through real-world business application.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Global Business Management

The Bachelor of Science in Business program is designed to prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values to effectively apply various business principles and tools in an organizational setting. The BSB entry sequence exposes students to valuable theoretical knowledge and best practices in the areas of management, organizational behavior, research and evaluation, and critical thinking and problem solving. In all BSB program coursework, the curriculum addresses critical business issues in the areas of diversity, globalization, ethics, technology, and e-business.

The Global Business Management Major emphasizes fundamental principles and practices of conducting global business activities. Components of the Major include: international marketing, international trade and investment, global finance, global human resource management, and global value-chain management. Students will integrate advanced topics in global business management through real-life applications. The program promotes the development of a global mindset and reflects the dynamic nature of global business realities.

In addition to the BSB business entry coursework, the global business management major stresses skill development in the areas of business law, accounting and finance analysis, computers and information processing, general marketing, and macro-economics.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Organizational Innovation

The Bachelor of Science in Business program is designed to prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values to effectively apply various business principles and tools in an organizational setting. The BSB entry sequence exposes students to valuable theoretical knowledge and best practices in the areas of management, organizational behavior, research and evaluation, and critical thinking and problem solving. In all BSB program coursework, the curriculum addresses critical business issues in the areas of diversity, globalization, ethics, technology, and e-business.Graduates of the Organizational Innovation specialization will be prepared to apply design principles, innovative practices, and creativity to develop business processes, strategies, services, and products. Additionally, students will be prepared to create strategic and tactical plans, apply basic project management principles to the creative process, and manage intangible assets. Finally, this program bridges the gap between traditional business thinking and an innovative and design focused philosophy.

Bachelor of Science in Business/Hospitality Management

The Bachelor of Science in Business program is designed to prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values to effectively apply various business principles and tools in an organizational setting. The BSB entry sequence exposes students to valuable theoretical knowledge and best practices in the areas of management, organizational behavior, research and evaluation, and critical thinking and problem solving. The hospitality management major will prepare students for careers in the hospitality industry. The program emphasizes the development of skills in lodging management; food and beverage operations management; events and recreation planning; and facilities management. Upon completion of this program students will possess the knowledge and skills needed to become leaders in the hospitality industry.

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program prepares leaders who can effectively respond to the dynamic and ever-changing health care industry. These individuals have a capacity to critically examine and evaluate issues and trends and are empowered to influence the destiny of the global health care system. Curriculum is tailored to the needs of the health care leader/manager by providing content in finance, policy, research, technology, quality improvement, economics, marketing and strategic planning.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology-Multimedia and Visual Communication

The BSIT focuses on the analysis, design, and development of information technology within the context of business systems. This program's specialization, Multimedia and Visual Communication, concentrates on the design and development of digital media presentations.

Master of Science in Counseling/Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy

The Master of Counseling program is designed to meet the needs of the working adult professional who will benefit from a graduate education in counseling. Because counseling and jobs requiring the skills of counselors are expected to grow in both the public and private sectors throughout the 1990's, students from a variety of settings and backgrounds should find the interpersonal, communication, and therapeutic skills offered in this program useful in advancing their careers. The Community Counseling and Marriage, Family and Child Counseling Programs have a 51-credit requirement for graduation. Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling programs, where available, have a 60-credit requirement. Coursework is completed in the order determined by the University. Master of Arts in Education/Adult Education and Training

The Master of Arts/Adult Education and Training Program (MAED/AET) is a 35-credit program of study designed for individuals who wish to develop the skills to work with adult learners in areas such as corporate training, community college instruction, non-profit and community based organizations, human services agencies, or professional development. The program encompasses knowledge of andragogical theory, the needs of diverse learners, critical issues and trends in adult education and training, instructional design and strategies, the use of technologies, and assessment. It also provides courses that address coaching and mentoring, e-learning, and e-learning web design technologies.

Master of Science in Accountancy

The Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) provides the breadth of knowledge for the professional accountant. Students master the theory and principles that frame a wide range of problems and issues encountered in the accounting profession.

This program is designed for accountants and non-accountants who are preparing for a professional certification in accounting such as the uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. This degree will allow students to seek positions in such career areas as accounting, auditing, and budgeting.

The MSA consists of 36 credit hours. Thirty credit hours constitute the core curriculum which covers the following areas of accounting: accounting theory and research, accounting information systems, managerial accounting and legal aspects of business, internal control systems, financial reporting, auditing, taxation, not-for-profit and government accounting, forensic accounting, and accounting ethics. The core courses were designed based upon the standards proposed by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). Additionally, six credit hours make up the financial accounting and communication proficiency courses. The proficiency courses are required for students who have not completed previous coursework in financial accounting or communications.

This program addresses the goals of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Vision Project for the professional values, communications and leadership skills, strategic and critical thinking skills, and technology skills (The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, 2007). In addition, the program meets the University of Phoenix learning goal of collaboration. A key feature of this program is the utilization of the CPA Test Prep software, which is integrated throughout the core program.

Note: Each state sets forth standards required to be eligible to take the CPA exam and apply for licensure or certification as a CPA. While this program was designed with consideration for the standards proposed by the National Association of State Boards of Accounting (NASBA), the University of Phoenix cannot, and will not, provide any assurance that completion of this program will allow a successful student to qualify within the student's specific jurisdiction. Potential applicants should check with the appropriate organization within their jurisdiction to determine if this program, combined with their undergraduate degree and any other specific criteria, meets the requirements to qualify for examination in that specific jurisdiction. States frequently change their requirements for examination. There is no assurance that at the time of degree completion the specific jurisdiction's requirements will be consistent with the requirements at the time of admission.

This course series is designed for nursing and health care professionals interested in pursuing or advancing in careers as faculty in higher educational settings. Those with no background in higher education receive a strong foundation for the many dimensions of the faculty role. Current educators can update or expand their knowledge in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation, and instructional strategies. Master of Business Administration-Accounting

The Master of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting (MBA/ACC) is designed to develop or enhance the financial management skills necessary to function effectively within private businesses, non-profit organizations, and public agencies. The program concentrates on managing human and fiscal resources within the structure, culture, and mission of any organization. The curriculum addresses advanced costing techniques, accounting theory, accounting information systems, issues in corporate taxation, executive management, budgeting, human resources management, organizational development, conflict management, strategic planning, information management, and decision making, among other subjects.
