View all campus listings The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is authorized to confer the Bachelor's of Science and Associate's of Science degree to graduates of approved programs, approved for the training of veterans and eligible veterans' dependents, and authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. The Art Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools ('ACICS') to award the Associate's of Science and the Bachelor's of Science degrees. ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education. Its accreditation of degree-granting institutions is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC). The Interior Design program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), www.accreditid.org, 146 Monroe Center NW, Suite 1318, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503-2822. In order to graduate from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's Interior Design program as a CIDA Accredited Program, a student must complete a minimum of 151 residential credits out of the possible 180 earned credits. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Candidate for Accreditation is a status of affiliation with a regional accrediting commission which indicates that an institution has achieved recognition and is progressing toward, but is not assured of, accreditation. It has provided evidence of sound planning, seems to have the resources to implement the plan, and appears to have the potential for obtaining its goals within a reasonable time. Candidacy was granted in June 2003. The Art Institute is a member of the American Council of Education, the American Association for Higher Education, the Allegheny Counselor's Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators, the Pennsylvania Association of College Admissions Counselors, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, the National Art Education Association, the Ohio Council of Private Colleges and Schools, and the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling. Degree Programs
Advertising
Advertising is a creative profession within the commercial realm. In the Advertising program, you'll study art direction, copywriting, and account supervision - and you'll learn both the creative and business side of advertising. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as account manager, copywriter, or assistant art director.
Advertising Design
Memorable advertisements are the result of a creative person who blends inventive ideas with the knowledge to bring those ideas to life. The Advertising Design program provides you with knowledge of design, typography, and color theory. You'll learn to utilize industry-related computer software as you create and design you own advertisements. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as graphic designers and graphic artists
Digital Design
In the Digital Design program, you'll study drawing, design fundamentals, lettering and typography, and graphic design. Build a portfolio as you create color composites, renderings, and learn mechanical preparation. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production and design positions with advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporate communications departments, and printing companies.
Fashion & Retail Management
The Fashion & Retail Management program teaches you to develop, analyze, and implement sales strategies - including buying and merchandising practices, inventory control, and cost analysis. You'll also learn about coordinating runway shows, sales consultation, and working with manufacturers' representatives. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as retail and wholesale sales, stylist, management trainee, and visual merchandiser.
Graphic Design - Associate
In the Graphic Design program, you'll study design, typography, and color theory. You'll use industry-specific software to help you learn and create everything from logos and posters to packaging, Web sites, and corporate identity packages. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as advertising designer, computer artist, freelance artist, graphic designer, or layout artist.
Graphic Design - Bachelor
In the Graphic Design program, you'll study design, typography, and color theory. You'll use industry-specific software to help you learn and create everything from logos and posters to packaging, Web sites, and corporate identity packages. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as advertising designer, computer artist, freelance artist, graphic designer, or layout artist.
Interior Design
In the Interior Design program, you'll study the design, safety, and usability issues of creating the spaces where we live, work, and play. Coursework focuses on space planning, traffic patterns, and the colors, surfaces and furnishings that make surroundings comfortable and livable. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as draftsperson, facilities planner, interior designer/decorator, or space planner.
Media Arts & Animation
In the Media Arts & Animation program, you'll develop a strong foundation in drawing, design, and illustration in order to produce traditional 2-D formats. Then, you'll move into computer generated 3-D formats that make characters and objects come alive. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as animator, computer animator, digital media producer, special effects artist, background designer, computer artist, layout artist, or video game artist.
Residential Interiors
In the Residential Interiors program, you'll learn the techniques to create livable, usable spaces within residential homes. This program teaches you to balance usability and aesthetics as you gain experience in fabric selection and accessories, space planning, and budgeting. You'll work with industry-related software to learn the tools and techniques used within the field. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as assistant sales representative and assistant interior designer.
Web Design
In the Web Design program, you'll study HTML scripting, designing graphics for the screen, Web site development using current applications, operating systems, network technology, Web animation, and desktop editing skills. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment in positions such as Web site designer, Web artist, Web producer, and Web site developer.
Web Design & Interactive Media - Associate
In the Web Design & Interactive Media program, you'll focus on interface design, interactivity, visual design, database design, dynamic Web content design, technology, and information design and employ creative solutions across all Web-related mediums. You'll learn skills that will enable you to create accessible, engaging interactions via Web sites and other interactive mediums.
