View all campus listings The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is authorized to confer the Bachelor's of Science and Associate's of Science degree to graduates of approved programs, approved for the training of veterans and eligible veterans' dependents, and authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. The Art Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools ('ACICS') to award the Associate's of Science and the Bachelor's of Science degrees. ACICS is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education. Its accreditation of degree-granting institutions is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC). The Interior Design program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), www.accreditid.org, 146 Monroe Center NW, Suite 1318, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503-2822. In order to graduate from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's Interior Design program as a CIDA Accredited Program, a student must complete a minimum of 151 residential credits out of the possible 180 earned credits. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Candidate for Accreditation is a status of affiliation with a regional accrediting commission which indicates that an institution has achieved recognition and is progressing toward, but is not assured of, accreditation. It has provided evidence of sound planning, seems to have the resources to implement the plan, and appears to have the potential for obtaining its goals within a reasonable time. Candidacy was granted in June 2003. The Art Institute is a member of the American Council of Education, the American Association for Higher Education, the Allegheny Counselor's Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators, the Pennsylvania Association of College Admissions Counselors, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, the National Art Education Association, the Ohio Council of Private Colleges and Schools, and the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling. Culinary Management
The bachelor's degree program in Culinary Management prepares graduates for entry-level foodservice-related management and supervisory trainee programs. The program provides an opportunity for students to become competent in the identified priorities for the foodservice industry: communication, training, leadership, motivation, management, human resources, technology, accounting, marketing, and customer relations. From overseeing food quality, to dealing with customers, to making staffing decisions, a foodservice manager handles hundreds of varied yet critically important tasks every day. The manager's capabilities and day-to-day performance, and abilities to make decisions quickly, often determine the ultimate success or failure of a foodservice operation. Managers are involved in teaching, training, and motivating staff and handling all forms of human resource issues. They possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, function as team leaders, and supervise a culturally diverse staff. Computer proficiency in foodservice operations is an integral part of a manager's daily function. Above all, knowledge of the customer and customer relations skills empower the foodservice managers to render better service, and to cater to the demands of knowledgeable consumers and employees. Our curriculum is driven by the industry and changes with its trends. It begins with courses that give students a foundation of basic concepts such as the History and Evolution of Food, Hospitality Technology, Managerial Accounting, Marketing Applications, and the Capstone Business Plan. Students will develop critical thinking and interpersonal skills while learning the business realities of the foodservice industry, like Business Communications, Human Resource Management, and Business Law.
Design Management
In the Design Management program, you'll study studio design, general education, business, management and technology. You'll learn to work as a team member as you fine-tune both your creative and business skills. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production assistant, marketing assistant, or assistant traffic manager.
Digital Design
In the Digital Design program, you'll study drawing, design fundamentals, lettering and typography, and graphic design. Build a portfolio as you create color composites, renderings, and learn mechanical preparation. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production and design positions with advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporate communications departments, and printing companies.
Digital Filmmaking & Video Production
In the Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program, you will learn to formulate, construct, and deliver digital audio, video, and motion graphics. Coursework will familiarize you with advances in high-definition video, storage area networks, and software toolsets - and you'll work with industry-related software and equipment. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as video editor, video producer, or digital videographer.
Fashion & Retail Management
The Fashion & Retail Management program teaches you to develop, analyze, and implement sales strategies - including buying and merchandising practices, inventory control, and cost analysis. You'll also learn about coordinating runway shows, sales consultation, and working with manufacturers' representatives. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as retail and wholesale sales, stylist, management trainee, and visual merchandiser.

Industrial Design
Programs within Industrial Design are for students who are highly visual but enjoy working with their hands and with tools. Industrial Design programs teach students to design the products people use every day - from toothbrushes to cars to sofas. An education in an Industrial Design program will help prepare students for a variety of entry-level careers in areas such as product designer and package designer.
Interior Design
In the Interior Design program, you'll study the design, safety, and usability issues of creating the spaces where we live, work, and play. Coursework focuses on space planning, traffic patterns, and the colors, surfaces and furnishings that make surroundings comfortable and livable. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as draftsperson, facilities planner, interior designer/decorator, or space planner.
Kitchen & Bath Design
In the Kitchen & Bath Design program, you'll study the principles of design, color theory, and lighting. You'll discover which materials and finishes work best within a home and learn how to accent kitchens and baths with fixtures, equipment, and cabinetry. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as support personnel in interior design studios, including those of material and supply companies and design firms.
Media Arts & Animation
In the Media Arts & Animation program, you'll develop a strong foundation in drawing, design, and illustration in order to produce traditional 2-D formats. Then, you'll move into computer generated 3-D formats that make characters and objects come alive. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as animator, computer animator, digital media producer, special effects artist, background designer, computer artist, layout artist, or video game artist.

Video production is at the center of everything from sports coverage to news programming, Internet broadcasts, television commercials, and corporate presentations. The Video Production program presents the skills needed to effectively operate a camera and process film in analog and digital formats - leading to a final production. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as audio-visual technician, video editor, video producer, or videographer.
Visual Effects & Motion Graphics
The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program helps you to learn how to use your creativity to produce attention-grabbing communication design for film, television, and the Web. Visual effects are responsible for movie trailers, opening film credits, television commercials, animated network identities, and short promos. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production assistant, assistant designer, visual effect specialist, or broadcast design assistant.

In the Web Design program, you'll study HTML scripting, designing graphics for the screen, Web site development using current applications, operating systems, network technology, Web animation, and desktop editing skills. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment in positions such as Web site designer, Web artist, Web producer, and Web site developer.
Web Design & Interactive Media
In the Web Design & Interactive Media program, you'll focus on interface design, interactivity, visual design, database design, dynamic Web content design, technology, and information design and employ creative solutions across all Web-related mediums. You'll learn skills that will enable you to create accessible, engaging interactions via Web sites and other interactive mediums. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment in positions such as interactive designer, animator, special effects artist, and computer artist.
